Description
Broiler Chicken Feed in 40 kg and 50 kg Bags
GroSpace Broiler Chicken Feed is available in Starter and Grower formulations, with a choice of 40 kg or 50 kg bags. These options allow poultry farmers to select the correct feeding phase and the bag size that best suits their flock, storage space, transport capacity and cash-flow plan. The product is intended for meat chickens and should not be confused with layer mash or pullet feed.
The price of every bag is calculated directly from the applicable price per metric ton. Starter feed is based on R7,974.86 per ton, while Grower feed is based on R7,790.11 per ton. One metric ton equals 1,000 kg. The bag price is therefore calculated by dividing the price per ton by 1,000 and multiplying the result by the bag mass.
Current Bag Prices
| Feed phase | Bag size | Calculation | Price per bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 40 kg | R7,974.86 × 40 ÷ 1,000 | R318.99 |
| Starter | 50 kg | R7,974.86 × 50 ÷ 1,000 | R398.74 |
| Grower | 40 kg | R7,790.11 × 40 ÷ 1,000 | R311.60 |
| Grower | 50 kg | R7,790.11 × 50 ÷ 1,000 | R389.51 |
Prices are rounded to the nearest cent. The quantity selected in the cart represents the number of bags, not the number of kilograms and not the number of birds. The minimum order is one bag. For example, ordering three units of Starter 40 kg means three 40 kg bags with a combined nominal mass of 120 kg.
Starter Feed
Broiler Starter feed is intended for the early growth period after chick placement. Young chicks need a suitable complete ration while their digestive system, organs, skeleton, immune response and early muscle structure develop. A reliable start supports flock uniformity and helps prepare birds for the faster growth that follows during the Grower phase.
Starter feed is commonly supplied in a form that small chicks can consume readily, such as crumbs or appropriately sized meal. Feed should be fresh, evenly distributed and easy to reach. Chicks must also have continuous access to clean drinking water because poor water availability quickly reduces feed intake. Check drinker flow, feeder access, brooding temperature and chick activity frequently during the first days.
Select either the 40 kg or 50 kg Starter option according to the number of chicks and the supplier’s recommended intake programme. Industry programmes do not all change phases on the same day. Some programmes use Starter for approximately the first 10 to 15 days, while others continue to around day 17. The current instructions printed on the delivered bag take priority over general guidance.
Grower Feed
Broiler Grower feed is used after the Starter phase to support rapid skeletal and muscle development. Feed consumption rises considerably as birds become larger, which means feeder space, water flow, ventilation and litter management become increasingly important. Grower feed should be introduced in accordance with the programme supplied with the product.
Observe the flock during any phase change. Birds should remain active and feed intake should stay consistent. If intake drops, investigate environmental temperature, air quality, water supply, health, stocking density and feeder adjustment. Do not assume every performance problem is caused by feed. Good results depend on the complete production system.
The 40 kg Grower bag is useful where lighter individual bags simplify handling or where farmers want to purchase smaller increments. The 50 kg option provides more feed per bag and may reduce the number of bags required for a large flock. Both options use the same supplied Grower price per ton, so the price changes proportionally with bag mass.
How to Estimate the Number of Bags
Begin with the number of birds placed and the expected feed intake per bird for the relevant phase. Multiply the number of birds by the planned intake, then allow for realistic operational losses. Divide the total kilograms required by either 40 or 50 to estimate the number of bags. Always round upward when a partial bag would otherwise leave the flock short of feed.
Actual consumption varies with genetics, target slaughter age, live-weight objective, temperature, bird health, feed form, activity, stocking density and management. Keep daily or weekly records of feed received, feed issued, remaining stock, mortality and sample weights. These records help identify unusual changes and make the next order more accurate.
Avoid purchasing more feed than can be used within the shelf-life period stated by the manufacturer. Where several batches or phases are stored together, label the storage area clearly so that Starter and Grower bags cannot be confused.
Storage and Feed Quality
Store bags in a clean, cool, dry and well-ventilated feed room. Place them on sound pallets above the floor and leave enough space for inspection. Protect feed from rain, condensation, direct sunlight, rodents, insects, wild birds, chemicals and fuel. Rotate stock using a first-in, first-out system while still checking manufacturing dates and expiry information.
Do not feed material that is wet, mouldy, contaminated, unusually hot, badly caked or affected by an abnormal odour. Retain bag labels and batch details until the feed has been used. If a quality concern arises, isolate the affected bags, photograph the product and label, record the batch number and contact the seller before feeding it.
Responsible Feeding and Biosecurity
Use clean scoops, bins and feeder equipment. Remove spilled feed promptly because it attracts rodents and wild birds. Restrict unnecessary access to feed stores and poultry houses. Maintain an appropriate vaccination and flock-health programme with guidance from a veterinarian or qualified poultry adviser.
Never add medicines, supplements, grain or other ingredients to a complete ration unless this is recommended by a qualified professional and permitted by the manufacturer’s instructions. If a supplied feed contains a registered stock remedy, follow every warning and withdrawal instruction on the bag. Product labels and supplier documentation override general information on this page.
Ordering Through GroSpace
First choose Starter or Grower. Then select either a 40 kg or 50 kg bag and choose the required number of bags. All four options are available on backorder, subject to supplier confirmation. The seller will confirm the available registered product, brand, batch, packaging, lead time and fulfilment arrangements.
For recurring or high-volume orders, contact the seller through GroSpace to request scheduled supply and a volume quotation. Buyers should confirm access conditions, offloading arrangements and whether collection or delivery is available for the order location. Heavy feed orders require safe handling and suitable transport.
Inspect the consignment before accepting it. Confirm the feed phase, bag mass, seals, quantity, labels and visible condition. Report shortages or damage promptly and keep the invoice and labels for farm traceability records.
Important: The product photograph is illustrative because the dispatched registered brand may vary. Price is per selected bag. Always follow the feeding programme and safety information printed on the supplied bag.
